Tapestry at Battle Shortlisted for Best Development at Inside Housing Awards
East Sussex development reaches finals of prestigious national awards celebrating projects delivering lasting social, economic and environmental benefits.
Rother DC Housing Company’s (RDCHC) flagship housing development, Tapestry in Battle, East Sussex, has been shortlisted for the ‘Best Development’ award at the Inside Housing Development Awards 2026.
The Awards recognise the UK’s most outstanding residential developments, celebrating excellence in delivery, innovation and partnership working. Following a rigorous judging process involving more than 300 entries, Tapestry has been selected as one of just ten finalists in the ‘Best Development’ category.
Named after the world-famous Bayeux Tapestry, which tells the story of the Norman Conquest of 1066 and Battle’s unique place in British history, the development is creating a vibrant and sustainable new community for the town.
Delivered through a partnership between Rother DC Housing Company, Rother District Council, Greymoor Construction and Places for People, Tapestry will provide 200 high quality, energy-efficient homes including 70 homes for sale on the open market and 130 for shared ownership and affordable rent.
Judges praised the scheme for its combination of placemaking, technical innovation and ability to deliver lasting social value. Sustainability is at the heart of the development which features one of the region’s first community-owned battery storage systems, helping residents benefit from homes that are both environmentally responsible and affordable to run.
Richard Thomas, Chair of Rother DC Housing Company, said: “We are delighted that Tapestry, our first major residential development in the Rother District, has been recognised at a national level. This achievement is a testament to the strength of our partnership with Greymoor Construction and all those involved in bringing this vision to life. Together, we are delivering homes that are safe, well built, energy efficient and designed to meet the needs of residents now and in the future.”
Graham Morris, Managing Director of Greymoor Homes, said: “This recognition highlights what can be achieved through strong partnership working and a shared commitment to quality. The project has transformed a site once considered too challenging to develop into a thriving new neighbourhood that will benefit Battle and the wider district for generations to come.”
The Awards form part of Housing Week, London one of the UK’s leading housing events, bringing together leaders, policymakers, investors, developers and housing professionals to help shape the future of the sector.
The winner will be announced at the Inside Housing Development Awards 2026 ceremony on 24 November 2026, at the InterContinental O2, London.
