Blackfriars, Battle
Inspired by the local architecture of the High Weald, our attractive collection of 2, 3 and 4-bedroom homes will enable a thriving new community in the heart of historic Battle.
A Brief
History
The Blackfriars site has been allocated for development for more than 50 years. It was first earmarked for housing in 1967 in the Battle Town Plan and then in successive plans up to the 2006 Local Plan. Its construction represents the largest rural town housing project delivered within the Rother district in over ten years.
Set within 7.5 hectares, it will see the construction of 200 energy efficient new homes. These will comprise 130 properties for affordable rent and shared ownership, alongside 70 homes for the open market.
Properties will be constructed in materials traditionally used in the local area such as slate, red brick and clay tiles. The spacious lay-out will offer easy access to landscaped areas of public open space featuring hedgerows and cottage-style borders.
To enable residents to benefit from energy efficient homes which are cheaper to heat and easier to cool, each property will incorporate its own air source heat pump that meet the new Part L Building Regulations. In addition, all homes will have an electric vehicle charging point to support the transition away from diesel and petrol vehicles and their emissions.
In recognition of Battle’s long and eminent role in British history, this development will be known as ‘Tapestry’.
