Council’s new executive committee will ‘strengthen the partnership’ says Rother DC Housing Company
Rother DC Housing Company (RDCHC) has welcomed the decision by Rother District Council (RDC) to create a new Executive Sub-Committee to oversee, support and scrutinise the activities of RDCHC, a private company wholly-owned by the council.
The recommendation, approved by full council on 28 July 2025, is expected to further protect RDC’s £35m investment into its first major housing project at Blackfriars, Battle. The 200-home development, the first to be delivered by RDCHC,marks the largest housing project in a rural town within the Rother district in over a decade. Construction is already underway with the first homes scheduled for completion in Spring 2026.
Richard Thomas, Chair of Rother DC Housing Company said: “This week’s decision by full council to establish a new Executive Sub-Committee is positive news for all those committed to addressing the district’s ever-increasing housing need. Its increased focus on robust, open and transparent governance will ultimately strengthen the partnership between RDCHC and Rother District Council and boost our ability to secure the supply of new homes across the district.”

The Executive Sub-Committee will take effect from 8 August 2025, replacing the current officer-led Shareholder Representative Oversight Group (SROG).
